Athens 2004 Olympic Poster

The poster design selected as the official by the Athens 2004 Organising Committee for the Olympic Games incorporated the principles of the ‘Panorama’, the visual identity of the Athens Games.

It includes elements of the Greek landscape, with colours and motifs representing the famous sun and sea of the country. History is also present with an image of the Acropolis, a monument encompassing the essence of Western civilisation.

In the upper right corner, the emblem of the Games is depicted. It is a sketch of an olive wreath which was awarded to the victors in the ancient Olympic Games. The olive tree was also the sacred tree and symbol of the ancient city of Athens.
