The Birth of Innovation exemplifies the multilayered techniques and influences of the renowned Qatari artist Yousef Ahmad. The architectural heritage of the Islamic and Arab world is evident, with each panel reminiscent of the Mashrabiya, a type of oriel window embellished with latticework. Within a background of abstract calligraphic compositions, the black line represents an observer looking through the windows.
The artist's lifelong interest in papermaking and locally sourced materials led him to introduce new methodologies in 2008 that utilise palm tree leaves’ natural fibers in his artistic practices. Through this technique, he also draws inspiration from the traditional artisanal practices of the Gulf in his modern experimentations of Arabic calligraphy. This triptych's warm and earthy hues further allude to the artist's deep connection to his cultural roots.
