A Nation in Exile is an artwork in the form of a book produced as a collaboration between the Algerian artist Rachid Koraïchi, Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, Iraqi calligrapher Hassan Massoudy and Moroccan author Abdel Kebir Khatibi. The artwork blends their individual respective disciplines while also highlighting their cultural commonalities despite coming from varying backgrounds within the Arab world. In this joint creative effort, each of them reflects on personal perceptions of exile, belonging and heritage. The illustrations by Koraïchi aim to visualise the multitude of emotions conveyed in a selection of iconic poems by Darwish transcribed in Massoudy’s unique calligraphic style, all of which are united by Khatibi’s writings.
