Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
Saliba Douaihy was born in the town of Ehden, located in the Northern mountains of Lebanon, known for its remarkable views of natural scenery.
Following his move to New York City in 1950, the artist started developing his most distinctive style; demonstrating strong influences of minimalist art and geometric shapes, these compositions served as abstract expressions of his native country’s landscape. As for his colours of choice, a vivid red dominates the canvas accented by a bright green and a warm yellow with touches of blue and white, reflecting his upbringing in the Mediterranean where he was surrounded by such a palette.
