Experiencing the world around her through varying perspectives, Turkish artist Fahrelnissa Zeid uses abstraction as one of the many styles central to the depiction of said experience, within the artist’s oeuvre. Her academic training in the fine arts had majorly influenced the start of her illustrious career before she eventually began to experiment with the creation of abstract art in the late 1940s, establishing a new benchmark for this style of painting. Through combining modernist techniques with Islamic geometric pattens and the intricacies of Byzantine mosaics, she utilised vivid hues to create unique compositions, including this featured artwork. Overall, Zeid’s works are characterised by the intensity of their emotionally charged colour palettes in which the viewer gets a sense of her spiritual line of thinking. In this example, red and teal dominate the background, yellow and black are secondary, complemented by wisps of white and green. With her unique visual style, Fahrelnissa Zeid founded new approaches towards the representation of abstraction.
