On 19 November 1969, Pelé, the celebrated Brazilian player and one of the most successful goal-scorers in football history, scored the 1,000th goal of his career with this ball. The match took place in the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro between Santos, Pelé’s team, and the rival club Vasco da Gama. Pelé secured the win for his team with a penalty kick, and he was cheered for 25 minutes for his 1,000th goal.
The ball bears faint inscriptions in blue ink, of which "PELÉ 1000" is the best preserved.
