The Silverstone Circuit, in central England, was established in a former Royal Air Force station built during World War II. The first British Grand Prix took place in Silverstone, central England, in 1948. Established in a former Royal Air Force station built during World War II, Silverstone saw the inaugural Formula 1 season in 1950. The British Grand Prix race was the first of seven included in this first edition of the F1 championship.
Italian driver, Guiseppe Farina of the Alfa Romeo team won the British race and went on to claim victory in the 1950 season. On the cover, is a work by Leslie Carr (1891-1969), a British painter and graphic artist who focused on motoring, railway, and maritime subjects and became the art director of The Motor magazine in the 1960s.
